The Sweetheart of the Riverina
Junee boasts a treasure trove of captivating attractions and experiences!
Take a guided tour of the Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum, an impressive feat of engineering and one of the few working roundhouses left in the world. When it opened in the 1940s, it had the largest turntable in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also the location of the last steam train depot in NSW.
A great way to explore Junee is on foot. For information on self-guided tours visit the Junee Visitor Information Centre, located at the Junee Library.
Uncover the Town's Treasures
Along the way, be sure to stop by the two-storey Broadway Museum – a heritage-listed pub built in 1914 which houses a collection of local memorabilia and Betty’s on Broadway cafe. For more rail history, take the short drive to Bethungra Rail Spiral.
One of Junee’s most popular and unusual attractions is the Monte Cristo Homestead, reputed to be Australia’s most haunted house. Book an evening ghost tour through the Victorian-era mansion or, if you’re brave enough, spend the night.
The Canola Trail
The key towns of the Canola Trail are Temora, Coolamon and Junee, on Wiradjuri Country, in the Riverina region of New South Wales, in south-eastern Australia. Put your foot on the brake and pull into the small villages and crossroads in between – they’re your gateway to vibrant little art communities, mountain biking trails, local produce and instagram-ready boutique stays.
Here, you can meet the makers and creators, soak up 1920s streetscapes, fossick through little boutiques or bric-a-brac shops looking for that golden find. Spot kangaroos at sunrise and sunbaking goannas at high noon on forest walks and lake loops. And who doesn’t love a leaping, spring lamb and flowering bushland?
